A bit of a tweak
Posted on Wed, 27 Aug 2008 07:43:52 by Mirz
Just a quick note to say that we have updated the color scheme on this page. We got a few comments that the last background (which I happened to love) was too bright and busy, and gave at least one visitor a migraine. So, while I wanted to keep the retro look, I did pick a more subdued background. Hope everyone is okay with it!
Second, while I liked the Webmaster's blog...no one read it. Or at least very few people. So, we have eliminated that (it will be removed shortly from the blog page), and this blog will act as our little outlet for any ramblings of that nature.
Also, we are going to be utilizing this blog much more for updates and such. The front page will still be the place to get up-to-the-date blurbs on what is going on with the site, but more details will be posted here. This is in the hopes of keeping the front page cleaner.
Be sure to read the blog entry below this, as it talks about what's been going on, and what will going on with the site over the next couple of weeks.

Getting back on track
Posted on Wed, 27 Aug 2008 07:24:15 by Mirz
Well, the server hack a few weeks back totally blew us out of the water, and after the dust had settled, we didn't. Anyone who has followed the site regularly over the last year knows that we have hit some very hard times. Unfortunately, we are not alone, as many people we know are scraping to make ends meet. And not just large families. Small families and couples are pinching pennies and making hard choices money-wise every day. I have to admit to getting ulcers in the past worrying about losing visitors because an update was late. However, when you're worrying about losing your house in foreclosure, your perspective changes. We've done this for 5 years and we hope to do it for 5 more. "This too shall pass..." or at least we'd like to think so.
Anyhow, the good news is that we're back on track again. We have just finished work on a couple of related projects which we'll be posting about in the next day or so. We have pulled some things together and hope to get our blogs more active soon. That includes getting some new bloggers on board, so if anyone is interested, stay tuned for more info. We want to get things read site-wise as we all settle down from summer fun back into schooling and readying for (gasp) the holiday season.
So, more stuff is coming, a few changes here and there, and hopefully we'll be back on track through the end of 2008! Thanks everyone for hanging around, and we hope the best is yet to come!

We have a winner!
Posted on Thu, 05 Jun 2008 17:40:34 by Mirz
Since we have only a handful or participants, we are going to give the full details of our Reviews Forum posting contest.
Here's how the posting turned out. The username is first and the number of they posted is next to it (note, it was our final decision what counted as full and follow-up reviews). The last number series is their chance numbers based on their review total:
countrymama 9 1-9 bethnboysx4 4 10-13 melsmunchkins 4 14-17 slingnmom 3 18-20 wereonebody 2 21-22
And the winner is, according to Random.org...

That makes COUNTRYMAMA our winner! Congratulations, Amanda! If you haven't received an email from us, please contact us with your current email address so we can arrange to get you your prize.
Thanks to all that participated!

Sad News - Kids Forums Closed
Posted on Wed, 04 Jun 2008 16:32:47 by Mirz
We are very sad to announce that our kids' forums have been closed. We were very happy to have them for as long as we did, and we hope the kids that participated enjoyed them. However, over the last year or two, with some problems we had with the system, they were down for an extended period of time. When we reopened them, we found that there were not many parents who were interested in having their kids sign up again.
In all fairness to the kids, it's no fun being on a forum where there are only a couple of people posting, so we made the decision to close them. We are not sure this is a permanent closure. If a substantial number of people show interest, we will reconsider opening them. For now, however, we feel this decision is best.
On a happier note, we are not foregoing our kids' section. We actually have some fun things planned, and eventually hope to incorporate some other method of communication. Stay tuned on this, as we're hoping to try a few things out late summer.
